CM-e-Lect™ checks for updates every 15 minutes.

Top

The Application will present all information as it was when it was last connected, and will look for new information as soon as a connection is made.

Top

What happens if CM-e-Lect™ indicates a download in progress and I need to shutdown?

It is safe to turn off the computer anytime while downloading. The download will continue from the point at which the computer was shutdown the next time it is started and connected to the internet.

The content inside the tool does not show up properly?

This can happen when your browser is set to use font enlarging to make smaller fonts visible. The potential drawback - if you change from the default font size, you may interfere with part of the CM-e-Lect™ content layout - text may break at the wrong spot or mis-align, or parts of the page might be outside the CM-e-Lect™ screen (i.e. the Submit button on the login screen). Moving back to the default font size will fix these problems.
Start by opening an IE browser window. Then select the IE menu option "View" --> "Text Size" and choose the "Medium" or "Default" setting.

I seem to have forgotten where to open my tool to access my content.

Top

How do I know my tool is receiving course material?

As long as the CM-e-Lect™ tray icon is in the system tray and you have a connection to the internet the tool is checking for new deliveries.

You need to be online for this to occur. Once content has been received the tool will open and notify you. You can also click on the content button to see the progress in the content view.

If you have received the welcome alert you are receiving course material whenever you are online.

Top

Do I need to be online to work with the program?
No. Once you have your course material in your content area you can work at your leisure while offline.

You will need to have an internet connection for the online Program Evaluation in the Conclusion section when you request your CME credit.

Each time I attempt to log in, an error message says: "You must be online" even when I am online. How do I correct the problem?

Before trying anything else, please verify that you used the correct login. Attempt to access CM-e-Lect by restarting the tool (double click desktop icon) and type in your exact username and password.

You can also verify that you can access the CM-e-Lect registration servers from your computer by navigating to the following URL using Internet Explorer and logging in to edit your registration information:

The CM-e-Lect Application uses the Internet-Proxy server that is configured in Internet Explorer. If this is not set up correctly and you are normally using a different Browser, the system might not be able to connect to the CM-e-Lect registration server. Please refer to the following link for more information:

If all these steps fail, you might need to use CM-e-Lect on a different computer. You can always download CM-e-Lect again from the website link:

How do I work through multiple programs?

To work through multiple programs you must start by downloading and completing Program 1. Once that is completed you must submit your evaluation or you will not receive credit. You will recieve a tool alert when the next program is available. You will be prompted with "I am done with the previous program" or "I am not done with the previous program". I downloaded your program but when I attempted to use it I got the following error message:"Imp.exe - unable to locate DLL"
Firewalls and network configuration should not be an issue in this case. The system seems to be missing the file RASAPI32.DLL.

RASAPI32.DLL is a Microsoft file which is included in its later releases of its Windows operating systems when Remote Access Service (RAS) is installed. By default on most Windows installation, RAS is automatically installed. However, some installation of Windows with just high speed Internet Access (Cable, DSL, T1, etc), RAS is not installed.

You should ask your system administrator to install RAS for you.

Windows NT 4.0 Instructions to Install RAS
Step 1

Go into Control Panel by double clicking on My Computer. Then double click on 'Network'. Now click on the tab that says
'Services'.
Step 2
Look for an item called 'Remote Access Service'. If you have this item, you have RAS and it should work. If not, continue to Step 3.
Step 3
Click 'Add' and then click on 'Select Network Service' screen. Select the item called 'Remote Access Service' then click OK. It will prompt you for you NT 4.0 CD. After the files are copied, it will ask you what modem you wish to use with 'Remote Access Service' - this can be canceled.

When CME-e-Lect is on (on the system tray) the Wave audio is off, hence I cannot listen to the presentation. I had to close CME-e-Lect to hear the presentation and at the end reconnect to do the post-test.
The CM-e-Lect application engine uses Microsoft DirectX technology for graphics rendering and audio playback.

The issues that you experience - "CM-e-Lect blocks .WAV audio playback when running" - should be resolved when you update your system with the latest version of DirectX.

To download the latest version of direct, please follow this link:

Select the "DirectX Runtime" link to get do the download section. You might need to reboot your computer during this installation.

If this step does not resolve your issue, you might have an old audio driver installed. You would need to contact the manufacturer of your sound card or PC/laptop to receive updated system drivers for your hardware.

I have listened to the intro to program 2 (Q&A) but it won't let me go to the second segment (program). I tried listening to the intro again but it still wouldn't let me go on. I can't do program 3 until I do this so I'm stuck.
For a quick reference, Program 2 (and all following programs) have three parts to them: Introduction, Segment 1 and Conclusion.
  • To exit the Introduction: click the "Exit Introduction" button on the right at any time. You now have access to Segment 1.
  • To exit Segment 1, complete the "Post-Test" and click the "Post Program Window" button on the "Thank You" page. You now have access to the Conclusion.
  • To exit the Conclusion: click the "Exit Conclusion" button on the right at any time. Be sure to submit your Program Evaluation to get CME credit.

Your technical difficulties might be caused by an issue with a CM-e-Lect utility that is used to capture user input from the content pages. This utility program is invisible to the user and automatically started when CM-e-Lect becomes active.

  2. Restart your PC. Open CM-e-Lect by clicking on the system tray icon. Select the "Content" tab. Select "Introduction". Select "Exit Introduction".
The tool reports that it is offline even when I am online.

  • Locate the CM-e-Lect desktop icon. Open its settings dialog by right clicking on the icon and selecting "Properties" from the drop-down menu.
  • In the dialog, locate the line labeled "Target". Click once in the entry line. Use the Left-Arrow cursor key to find the location where it reads
       -cmdvar desktop
  • Add the following text after the word "desktop":
      -alwaysconnected
This parameter needs to have a space character before and after itself.
  • Click on "OK" to close the dialog and save your changes. Now, restart CM-e-Lect with this special setting by double-clicking on the desktop icon.
